We make a lunchtime stop in Sherborne Town before an afternoon visit to Sherborne Castle, built by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1594 and the stately home of the Digby family since 1617. Sherborne is a Historic house which reflects a glorious variety of decorative styles from over 400 years of English history. 'Capability' Brown created the 50-acre lake in 1753 and gave Sherborne the very latest in landscape gardening, with magnificent specimen trees, borders and sweeping lawns in one of his finest Lakeland landscapes.
